– SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD GOES TO TV LEGEND BRUCE FORSYTH –
all the stars of the small screen gathered at London’s O2 Arena for the much anticipated 16th National Television Awards. Voted for by the public and hosted by Dermot O’Leary, the glamorous awards aired LIVE in peak time on ITV1.
The show kicked off with a surprise performance from ‘I’m A Celebrity’ stars Stacey Solomon and Shaun Ryder, who wowed the crowd with a duet of ‘I’m Feeling Good/Step On’. There was also a live performance from X Factor winner Matt Cardle with his number 1 hit ‘When We Collide’ and Louie Spence, from popular TV show ‘Pineapple Studios’ .

The glitzy ceremony also saw the likes of Alesha Dixon, Holly Willoughby and Ruth Jones grace the stage, celebrating the past year of TV. Those awarded with a prestigious NTA trophy include Benidorm in the Comedy category, Sir David Jason for Drama Performance and The Inbetweeners for the new category of Digital Choice. The highly coveted award for Talent Show was given to The X Factor, beating off competition from Britain’s Got Talent, Dancing on Ice and Strictly Come Dancing.

But the real tear jerker came when Indigo television revealed they had flown in the lead Chilean Miner, Luis Urzua, with his 18 year old son, to London to present an award to Waterloo Road. Presented by last year’s winner Stephen Fry this year’s Special Recognition Award went to Bruce Forsyth, rewarding him for his TV career, which has spanned over 50 years. Ant and Dec continued their reign at the National TV Awards picking up the Most Popular Entertainment Presenter.

Caroline Flack and Brian Dowling teamed up to present the ITV2 show, with exclusive interviews and backstage gossip from the awards.
